Approaching Tahiti.

The Maeva Beach anchorage on the west side of Tahiti.

The public market in downtown Papeete, Tahiti.
Cheap fresh veggies for the first time since Mexico!

Another view of the public market.

These ladies are making flowered leis and head dresses in the public market.

The infamous quay in Papeete.
We chose not to tie up here due to the complications involved
and the petty theft problems that were occurring.

These are the "roullettes" - a bunch of food trucks
that show up every night in Papeete at about 6:00 pm
and serve food until about 5:00 am.

At first, we thought they were roasting a human being here.
But, eventually, we found out it was veal.

After eating dinner at the roullettes, we happened upon
this outdoor rehearsal for the Miss Teenage Tahiti pageant.

A view of Moorea from the Maeva beach anchorage.

While driving around the island of Tahiti, we stopped to explore this cave.

A view, looking out of the cave, at Nancy and Flo from "Flocervida".

Approaching Cook's Bay on Moorea.

Cook's Bay, Moorea.

A shot of the interior of Moorea,
taken from the back of a truck we were riding in.

Another view of the interior of Moorea.

We hitch-hiked up to this viewpoint ("The Belvedere")
at the high ridge above both Cook's and Opunohu Bays.

After taking the previous shot, we hiked down through the "maraes"
(ancient religious sites) back toward Cook's Bay.

Along our hike, we found many of these weird-looking trees.

Our postcard picture of Gumbo lying at anchor in Cook's Bay.

After moving the boat over to Opunohu Bay,
we took the dinghy out to the reef to swim with and feed the stingrays.

Nancy "enjoying" her contact with nature.

A stingray enjoying its contact with Nancy.

Kurt enjoying a stingray love-in.

And this is what one of these little dudes look like underwater.

Nancy looking alittle worried about our up-coming scooter ride around Moorea.

A bunch of us boaters hiking to yet another waterfall on Moorea.

The results of a night of 50 knot winds.
This boat's jib came unfurled and basically self-destructed.

These are the local fishermen who rescued our dinghy
when it came untied from Gumbo and drifted away
in the middle of the night.

This is the anchorage in the pass, just outside of the town of Fare,
on the island of Huahine.

Another view of the Fare anchorage, at sunset,
just as a cargo ship was arriving.

The dinghy dock at Fare, Huahine.

"Downtown" Fare.

Cruisers gathering on the beach at Huahine to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Our July 4th potluck.

Sailing from Huahine to Tahaa.

Entering the east pass on Tahaa.

We anchored for one night in this small bay on the west side of Tahaa.

A sunset shot from the Tahaa anchorage,
with Bora Bora in the background.

Sailing out the kinda gnarly western pass on Tahaa.

On our way to Bora Bora!

Approaching Bora Bora.

A view of the Bora Bora Yacht Club anchorage.

The road leading from the Yacht Club into town.

This is how the local guys spend their afternoons and evenings.
They're playing a game called "Petanque" which is a lot like Bocce Ball.

Nancy, staking out her spot on the ground,
getting ready for the nightly Heiva Festival activities.

One of the entries in the Heiva singing and dancing competition.

Another entry in the competition.

The incredible Faanui drummers.

These folks are building their flower floats for the nightly competition.

One of the beautiful floats.

And another one.

Kurt, jamming with the Nuenui drummers.

The big Heiva parade.

You'll notice that since EVERYBODY on the island is in the parade,
there is no one in the viewing stands.

The "fruit race". These guys carry about 75 pounds of fruit
and run a race through town.

The javelin throwing competition.
They're trying to hit a coconut suspended about 50 feet up in the air
and about 50 yards away.

Gumbo Ya-Ya, at anchor behind the south motu on Bora Bora.
