Left Ballard Mill Marina at 7:45 a.m. during a full moon (friends on the dock mooning us). What a laugh! In fact, Kurt was laughing so hard that he took a picture of the sky and not the moon! Jherek and Jenny hadn’t shown up yet, so we asked Sam if he would like to come along through the locks. We couldn’t believe our timing at the locks, we went right in and the lock tenders took our lines just as the calendar girls from Lithocraft appeared. And Kurt thought he was getting the last laugh. He took lots of pictures, so maybe he will get the last laugh! Lots of people from Kurt’s office and Jim Harrison from mine. One had a banner saying, "Australia, here we come." Jherek and Jenny were there too! They asked the lock tender to pass us over some donuts. Yum.

After transiting the locks we stopped at the Shilshole fuel dock to top off our tanks. Jherek and Jenny appeared so we had time for a short visit. Then it was off to Port Ludlow.

The trip to Pt. Ludlow took 4 hours. Motored all the way. Kevin & Kathy on Tao Min were the first to arrive and raft up. Next to arrive was Dale, Tina, Kat, Austin, and Kai from Phantom. Stacy and Don on their Passport 40, and last, but not least Jondra, Brian,
and Sena on Thursday’s Child. Around 6:30 pm Korum and Sara yelled from the docks
and Kurt went in to pick them up.

Potluck included: Mexican Bake, Kevin’s vegetarian delight, BBQ Salmon Wraps, and
brownie’s.

Sunday, August 3rd

The raft broke up around noon, but not before Don & Stacy’s dog "Keela" fell in the
water between their boat and Kevin & Kathy’s boat. Brian happened to be standing there
and was able to lean way over and support the dog so that Stacy’s could pull her on the
boat. That was exciting. And to see a wet Keeshond (sp?)

As Kurt was putting away the outboard the fuel hose connector broke. Thank goodness for that West Marine Gift Certificate.

Three hour trip to Port Townsend. Sailed all but 1/2 hour of the trip. Pulled into Point Hudson and side tied to the dock, but only after waiting for another boat to leave – they had taken our spot (thank goodness we had a reservation). I really like Point Hudson a lot. We walked into town and Kurt dropped me off at the Quilting Store and he walked down to West Marine to get a new part for the outboard. I shopped around Swain’s but didn’t buy anything. Talked Kurt into buying a couple of fishing lures.

When we got back to the Marina we ran into Gary Cone and his wife along with another couple they are buddy boating with. Gave them a tour of Gumbo and then took a tour of their boats. Dinner of Boboli Pizza and Salad.

Monday, August 4th

What a beautiful morning. No fog, sunshine, and not a ripple on the water. Brian Toss and his 2 assistants showed up about 8:45 am to tune our rig. Everything went very quickly, thanks to Kurt’s good job already, and Kurt and I stood on the dock watching. Afterwards, Kurt had Brian put an eye splice at the end of our drogue line.

Left PT at noon and headed to Hunter Bay on the southeast corner of Lopez Island. I have always disliked Hunter Bay and the reason is obvious to me. Usually we anchor there the night before we head home from vacation. I spend the whole evening worrying that it will be foggy the next day, and of course, it always is. That is why I haven’t enjoyed the place. We arrived at 5:00 pm and anchored. We had been there awhile when an inflatable came buzzing up to us. It was Dean (of Perry Rendezvous fame) and his girlfriend Desta. They brought over a bottle of red wine and later went and got us 3 Dungeness crabs! Dinner of "HAMBURGERS AND FRIES".

Tuesday, August 5th

Finally, a day of rest. Kurt asked me what I wanted to do. Nothing…….. was my answer. After so many weeks of preparing for the trip, right down to the last minute, and wrapping up things at work, we were really tired. I took a 3 hour nap, and went to bed early. Just spent the day reading our books. What a treat. Kurt caught more crab too! Dinner of sketti with crab.

Wednesday, August 6th

Departed Hunter Bay at noon and arrived at Fisherman Bay at 2:00 pm. On the way to Fisherman Bay we ran our water maker for the first time. Topped off our water tank in no time. Who should we see as we arrived? Raymondo! Ray and his buddy Carl were sailing their Pelican as we arrived. After we anchored they tied up to us for a beer and then we all met in town for an ice cream. Kurt said he expected to see Ray, but I sure didn’t. They had sailed over from Turn Island to get groceries. Kurt set the crab trap. Dinner of meatloaf and Crab Fettuccine.

Thursday, August 7th

Departed Fisherman Bay about 11:00 am heading to Friday Harbor. We need to meet up with Jim Corenman so that he can take a look at our email connection. Kurt is still having a problem with it. Anchoring was tight, but we finally agreed on a spot. With cable crossings and deep water, the anchoring space is tight around here. Took a trip into town to check out the new West Marine Express. Stopped by to say hello to Marilyn and bought a few groceries for dinner. Ray and Carl joined us for crab enchiladas.
