After a brief stop at Tanna to see the volcano, we sailed on an overnight passage
to Port Vila (the capital of Vanuatu) on the island of Efate. This is the yacht moorage area at Port Vila.

HOW EMBARRASING!!! The First Mate and our friend Becky from "Stardust"
both showed up in town wearing the SAME THING!

A shot of downtown Port Vila.

And this is a nice view of the yacht anchorage from up on the hill (Gumbo at lower right).

The fresh produce market at Port Vila.

The First Mate picking out some nice tomatoes. We've been told by the Australian
boaters that we must learn to say "tomahtoes" once we get to Australia.

One of our favorite things to do is to take photos of local kids, print them out,
and give them to them the next day. The locals love this as they often don't have any photos
of their family members. This little cutie was at the market while we were shopping.

After leaving Port Vila, we sailed for an hour to a neighboring anchorage
called Mele Island or "Hideaways", depending on who you ask.

This is a view of the river that enters the bay at Mele.

While anchored at Mele, we walked inland because we heard alot of music.
It turns out that there had been a big marathon race across Efate Island and a big party
was being thrown for the competitors.

We departed Mele after one night and sailed another 15 miles to Havannah Harbor,
on the North coast of Efate. On the way there, we passed "Hat Island".
Can you figure out why it was so named?

Havannah Harbor was a large, totally flat anchorage. We planned on spending a
few days there but we heard that there were strong winds coming in another 2 days and we
decided to sail early the next morning for Epi Island. We wish we could have
stayed at Havannah for a week!

There was a river entrance directly beside our boat so we dinghied up it until it got too shallow.
The local kids would wave hello as we motored by.

A good shot of one of the reefs inside Havannah Harbor. Need we say more?
